Honeywell Hw2000i Generator Review,
July 12, 2009
By ,Electronics Geek See all my reviews
anybody reading this will most likely want to compare the Hw2000i to the Honda EU2000i, as I did. At my time of buy there wasn’t much information out there. I decided to give it a try!
First of all the Honda is the king. Lighter and quieter. But at $499.00 delivered. One must put many thought into this choice.
My generator came delivered punctually , no damage. But, the “priming bulb” lyed at the bottom of the box! No big deal after I realized that it has been assembled incorrectly. I unscrewed the retainer ring, put the bulb in 1st , then screwed the retainer on.. all is well!!
The HW2000i runs well, so far! I have two hours on it. The efficiency mode does work, cutting the rpm and sound down by a 3rd. I believe that the output specifications are in line. Do not plan on running many power tools. It’ll barely run my 10amp skill saw. I tried my small table saw, the breaker kicked off. 8amp shop vac OK! Anything that makes heat, no problem up to the ranking output. It does not like any surges from induction motors.
I plan on using the generator for power outages and I installed a move switch. The hw2000i will run my Ref., tv, lights, and computers. The sine wave output looked pretty clean on my oscilloscope.
No battery charging cable and the output is free on the twelve volt output. I made my own cable with a two prong extension cable and battery clamps. I put the charger on a car battery the output dropped to 15 volts.
I do not think that it was made to charge car batteries… It’ll work, but do it at your risk! Better monitor the charger!
I hope this helps! Good deal if it keeps running. A little heavy, I can deal with the sound, particularly pulling only some amps on the efficiency setting.

Good Choice Great Price. Hurricane street User Explains why,

Verified PurchaseWhat’s this?
Living in Florida means power outages. If it is not a hurricane passing through, it is the afternoon thunderstorms that blow down branches or just an unlucky squirrel.Somehow there generally looks to be a power outage. Having pushed an old Coleman Powermate generator to it is bound, we decided it was time to start searching for a substitute. First wanted a nice Honda inverter generator but wasnt able to find them and the price was pretty high. Because we live in a residential area, sound levels are a factor and want/need something that can run some electronics as well as a small room A/C without big incident. Saw this and decided to give it a attempt.
One of the last reviewers claims to have found this unit for $300 at Home Depot they do indeed carry it but in my area it was $700 plus tax.Nearly 50 more than this one which has been delivered to my door with free shipping. There’s also a 1,000 watt unit which is less costly but only 1/2 the wattage less wattage is less useful. 2,000 watts is not much but it runs a small room AC that we keep on hand for power outages plus some lights etc without incident making it the perfect size.
Now, about the unit itself. It is about the size of a small suitcase bigger than projected since I thought it could estimated the Honda. It is also louder than the Honda though quieter than the old Coleman Powermate. Has a tough orange/red plastic casing that requires a screwdriver to open to access many of the controls screwdriver is included but, they don’t seem to be weather sealed in spite of fitting pretty securely in place. Unit is hefty but convenient to carry with fitted handle, stabilized footings etc.
Pulls start not instant a bit disappointing but started up quickly 2ned pull. Two regular outlets and one 12v with easy access fuse regions. Level indicators and efficiency settings all conveniently located. Fuel pours into top and could splash onto control panel if you were sleepy or sloopy but, the real fuel opening is big and easy to access with a funnel. Ditto for oil which also comes with a funnel..in fact, all the little extras you’ll need are included except for the oil itself which could have been nice.
This is CARB compliant, pretty calm particularly on efficiency setting, able to run more fragile electronics etc.Supposedly you may be able to plus in refrigerator/stove but since mine are on the costly side and we have other cooking arrangements throughout an outage I have not tested that setting still.
Will attempt to update after many use to find out dependability and durability. Right off looks like a nice little unit for decent price. Versatile, pretty calm. It’s not a Honda but also cost many less. Pleased with buy to date.

Honeywell HW2000i Inverter Generator Caution Advised,
September 16, 2009
By ,Old Retainer Reno, Nevada See all my reviews
Doing my common exhaustive research for, well, anything I’m going to pay a big price, I decided to give this Honeywell generator a attempt. The cost factor was a big part of the choice as the generator could have restricted use during my camping year. There was no need for a much more costly units Honda/Yamaha as my normal camping events are around four or five week ends a year. I figured: “Save the costly units for when I become a full time ‘road gypsy.’”
Received the generator from in their common fast time. This was good. Took the generator to the fifth wheel with a quart of oil and a couple of gallons of gasoline. This was good. Read the instruction manual on starting up the unit. Clear information. This was good. After some more tries to get the unit going it started up. This was good. Waited for the unit to warm up and come up to speed. This was good. Plugged the unit into the fifth wheel AC, went inside to attempt the low wattage microwave and . Nothing. This wasn’t good. Tried the lights . Nothing. This wasn’t good. Checked the generator for connections, etc. And all appeared as it should be. The unit purred along good, but it wasn’t producing any electricity. This was bad.
Of course, wasn’t going to accept a return on this unit because of gasoline issues. Told contacting the company. Called Honeywell buyer Support. Was told it may be a circuit board problem, but could not say as it could must be serviced at an authorized Honeywell fix center. I live in the second biggest city in Nevada. The nearest authorized Honeywell fix center was a hundred miles away. This could involve taking the unit physically to the center as to get it there by the common shipping venues could not be endured due to gasoline concerns. Though the unit had been drained of all gasoline and oil.
Called our local RV center and clarified the problem. They could look at it. There may be no guaranty to fix the problem as there was so little info about this Honeywell product. Received a call from the RV center and was told that it was the circuit board. As well, the fix tech found that the AC circuit breaker was broken inside the unit casing and could must be changed in order for it to be working. The parts, if they may be found, and the labor costs at $105.00 per hour, had to be considered if fix on this unit was to continue.
So, this “cheaper” alternative to the comparable Honda/Yamaha units so far cost me the initial $499.00 from and $298.00 from the RV center. Went to pick up the Honeywell unit and saw that the RV center had the Honda EU2000i and the Yamaha EF2000iS inverter generators set up for demonstration reasons. For $150.00 more than the joint costs of the Honeywell and it is fix, I bought the Yamaha as it was really quieter than the Honda in side by side comparisons and much quieter than the Honeywell. Where sound issues in a campground are generally a concern, the Honeywell unit couldn’t measure up to the Honda/Yamaha units. The Honeywell unit will be put up for sale in the local newpaper. I will be lucky to realize half my expense.
The Honeywell HW2000i? It came from the shipping box not working and with broken parts. Quality control from Honeywell’s out sourced China operations? Not too reassuring that this unit goed to last for some times camping. Less reassuring if this unit could have to be depended upon in an emergency. Given the usually good name of Honeywell, this product was an eye opening experience that all isn’t well with many American brand merchandise made abroad. If the Honeywell buyer Support Tech suggested that the problem may be the circuit board, and the local RV Service Center Tech who had no knowledge of this unit came to the same conclusion, then I suspect that Honeywell is already aware it must have a circuit board problem with this generator. What other problems may they be aware of is anyone’s guess. I did not want to learn by keeping this unit.
Would I recommend this product to a friend? No. As trite as the phrase can be, you still get what you pay for. Are the Honda/Yamaha merchandise overpriced? Yes. But, because of their historically hard performance, they can maintain their market pricing till someone like Honeywell can prove themselves as respectable contenders.
