I’m enjoying the camera. But, after I ordered it, I found that I may have bought it locally at a lower price.

1st of all, I just wanted to say that this is a dependable camera and product from Canon. The handling of the camera is user friendly and I found taking pictures a snap. I did attempt using the newer variant of this model only to want to come back to this one. Certainly a good camera for not so professional camera users as myself.

I bought the Canon Powershot A1000IS some days ago and I love it. This little camera has so many cool features.
The lcd is beautiful, everything is clear and looks nice on the lcd. The viewfinder is pretty good it’s useful for battery conservation and sunny days but it does not show the complete picture and you can not see the digital zoom I could with my old camera.
The 4x zoom is ok my old camera had 10x zoom but it was big. The digital zoom is 4x so that assists to get in close to the shot.
The camera’s body is simply magnificent, it feels tough but is not heavy. The colors are nice I got the grey one. The plastic looks and feels like it’s of high quality so I do not think it’ll break easily although I do not recommend throwing it at the ground. The plastic also feels smooth. There’s many metal blended in there around the lens when it’s closed.
The pictures that this camera takes are beautiful. They’re many of the best I have seen. They are not close to a dslr but in comparison to alike cameras the pictures that it takes are superior. It does not matter if you are shaking the camera or if the subject is moving around the camera still takes very clear pictures. The video quality is amazing I have never seen a point and shoot camera record video also as this camera does.
The camera is easy to use and turns on nearly instantly, it turns of faster. I also think that allowing you to review pictures by pressing the review but and not turning the camera totally on is a nice touch.
I recommend this camera to everyone who wants a comparatively inexpensive high quality camera.
I am going on vacation in two weeks so I’ll update this review when I get back.

The camera is good. It is got basic features, &, it is a good size. We wanted a camera that uses regular batteries. They are more convenient you can get them anywhere, &, it is easy to carry extras&, we NEVER had a problem before with batteries. With our costly Canon. Well, this camera has taken up to 14 seconds to RECHARGE the flash after we take a picture. If you are a regular camera user, that’s FOREVER when you are trying to get a shot of just about ANYTHING, particularly kids! you have MISSED the MOMENT!!!! it is totally RIDICULOUS!!! We sent it back to Canon, SURE that something was wrong. They sent a note back, saying they’d fix it &, there WERE faulty parts. Sure enough, it came back. NO BETTER! We USE the special camera batteries. It does not MATTER! You can not tell how long the camera will take to recharge every time. But it’s very FRUSTRATING, bcs you MISS every chance at a good photo!! it is a shame. It takes nice photos, &, has everything else you could need. Except it is gone BACKWARDS in time &, quality. Digital cameras have been around long enough. Such a LONG delay shouldn’t be an issue anymore!

I bought this camera for its small size and the repute of this series. Two things I wanted were a viewfinder and the use of 2A cell batteries. The high megapixel ranking wasn’t really needed. Lens sharpness is good, not excellent. Color is excellent. All in all I’m pleased with the camera after I went out and bought a bigger memory card.
