VholdR Wearable Camcorder Black reviews:
Rating: Reason for enhancements are obvious
The size and design of this thing are good for maybe 2007. So many other devices are rising with more powerful features, that it’s no wonder why it’s being cleared out for over 75 off. The 640×480 image quality is really not too bad, but for a unit that prides itself on being able of handling rigorous use, there was an terrible lot of shake interference in the image. The set up and use is distinctive in using the lasers, and the microSD media is really movable, but importing the footage into mac os 10.5 is restrictive and clunky. As of now, it’s hard, if not impossible, to get the footage into a real editing program. AVI SUCKS. I heard that the new HD unit is using h.264, so hopefully it’s a better format for the future of these cameras.
Rating: Sending it back
I got this camera for a coast to coast motorcycle ride. Tonight was the practice run. All charged up and it lasted about ten minutes. I got one video of 1:10 out of it, the other videos I thought I shooted weren’t on the camera when I got home. I check and it was dead. Then the one little video I had I uploaded to the VholdR site because you can not email your videos till you do this. I hate this part. Then I linked it to my facebook, 20 people TRIED to view it. None were successful. Generally, gave them a screen that said, be patient and do something else while your video is loading. This shouldn’t take more than a half an hour to load a one minute video. I did the troubleshooting and downloaded updated variants of just about everything, but to no avail. Just filled it back in the box. 1st thing I have ever sent back to Amazon.
Rating: Disappointed.
I thought this could be a useful tool. I paid close to $250 for it. After less than three hours of use I discovered the on/off button missed fell off? Having tried the vHoldr support, and not having received any answer, I gave up.
Rating: Interesting device marred by low battery life, slow transfers, and usability issues
It fundamentally does record video. The quality is OK but not great.
Now for what I do not like about it:
They say the battery lasts four hours. Attempt two.
They say the battery charges in four hours. Attempt eight using USB from my laptop.
Poor light sensitivity lots of video noise at sunrise and dusk.
Let us say you are charging it and now you want to copy your videos off. You simply unplug your USB cable, clip back on the sort of hard to get in place back slidey panel thing. Turn the VHOLDR on. Re detach the slidey thing. Plug in the USB but WAIT 17 seconds till the camera is prepared or computer most likely will not detect it. Wait an excruciatingly long time while it tries to copy your files. Do not copy too many now or the VHOLDR will crash. Got them all on your computer? Good. Now if you want your VHOLDR to recharge in this lifetime, unmount it, unplug it, reattach the back thingie, turn it off, detach the back thingie, and input the USB cable back in.
It is so slow to move I thought “Is this using USB 1″? So I tried a little micro SD to USB dongle. Nah, it is super slow too. So I guess VHOLDR supplied me with the slowest flash memory card recognized to man. But at least the VHOLDR does not crash when I use the dongle.
Accessories are viciously costly. Another little two inch diameter gluey plastic helmet mount? $20.
